The Port Harcourt City Club
Golf Section
The land for the Golf Course was acquired in 1928 on a 30-year term of entry and the club was established in 1928. In 1959, that right of reentry was exercised by the Eastern Nigeria Government with the aim of turning the course into a residential layout. With much lobbying, only fringes of the land were taken over by the government and a new 90-year lease was issued.
On the 11th of October 1959, the Mayor of Port Harcourt Hon. Justice Ambrose Allagoa took a drive off the first hole as a symbolic marking of the reopening of the course. The Ball used for this tee-off a Dunlop 65/7 is preserved for historic purposes. In 1971, the golfers named the Allagoa hole after the old Major in appreciation of his efforts in saving the Golf Course.
The Port Harcourt golf course is one of the oldest courses in the country and has hosted quite a number of local and national golf tournaments. Over the years, firms and organizations have continued to pull their own weight in maintain the course. In 1988, the eastern Bulk Cement and JGC of Japan renovated the clubhouse.
The Golf Course is located at No. 31 Forces Avenue, Old GRA. Thomas Collins designed this 5,457 meters with 18 holes and par 70. The course was built with a lot of donations from UAC of Nigeria, Barclays Bank and the Nigerian Tobacco Company.




THE PORT HARCOURT POLO CLUB
The Port Harcourt Polo Club located along Tombia Street, GRA Port Harcourt was established by the Nigerian Army in 1972 and handed over to the Civilians in 1974. The Port Harcourt Polo Club is the first in the Eastern region and reputed to have one of the best playing fields in the country.
The lush green lawns and tree lined driveway ushers one into the premises within which lies the paddocks, stables, practice field and playing field with a clear view of the club house adapted for high-end serene relaxation.
